Innovators/7 How did you come into the world??? And has it affected your health
We are all brought into this world through the process of birth. Many of us were born naturally (vaginal birth) and others of us were born through the process of cesarean (C-section). A recent study has found that there may be a link between they way you were born and your overall health at an early age. This study is very interesting because this study can shed light on a lot of childhood issues concerning health and sickness. The passage that you will read is an excerpt from the book entitled Missing Microbes, by Martin J. Blaser. In the passage, he links the bacteria that is present in the mother to a baby's health. It is interesting to note that there is different bacteria exposure based on they way you were born. Read the passage, and then talk to your parents about your birth and your early health to see if there is any similarity or validation based on the findings.

ReplyDeleteAfter reading the passage, I was able to make a link between when I was born and now. I was born naturally, and I got sick a lot as a little kid. This could be because I didn't get the bacteria that I needed when I was born, or if my mom had antibiotics in her system and I got them, then it would affect the bacteria. My immune system then was not the greatest, most infants have a weak immune system. I got sick easily, and maybe this was because of the bacteria? However it is not so much the case now. I don't usually get sick often, and my immune system is fairly good.
I was born a natural birth, so i'm good.
ReplyDeletePlus, my mom says I was a pretty healthy baby. I didn't get sick easily or anything.

ReplyDelete~ I was born naturally and when I talked to my mom she said I was a healthy baby who rarely got sick but I often had minor case of asthma where I could not breath as easily at night. Based on the article I have gotten the bacteria needed and I still have a strong immune system today.
ReplyDeleteI was born in the Philippines and was naturally born from my mother. When I was a baby, I was hospitalized a lot because of the different conditions that they had there. I was hooked up to lots of medications when I was young. Since I have been in America, I have not been sick for while.
ReplyDeleteWhen I talked to my mother, she said that I was born through a C-Section. She also said that I was a healthy baby who didn't have many problems growing up as an infant.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that this article relates to my birth, because I wasn't sick very often. This research most likely has to deal with certain kinds of mothers and births, not all. The different genes that were passed on for the type of immune system may have also affected each birth.
DeleteI was born naturally and didn't have many health problems when I was a baby and growing up. The only problem I did have was when I was about seven and contracted strep throat many times, would that be because of the bacteria?
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally. I didn't get sick that often except for when the seasons changed.
ReplyDeleteI was born C-Section. Even though I was born C-Section, I was mainly a healthy baby...
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I had was a reaction to the chicken pox vaccine. The doctors were not sure why, but it went away. I also had many allergies and pink eye once or twice.
I was born through vaginal birth. Although that was the case, I was usually always sick. Double ear infections several times as an infant and strep throat atleast once a year as I grew up.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this I have gained a lot more knowledge about the child birth experience. I was born natural and as far as I know I was not sick with any infections but I had heart and lung issues.
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally. As a child I got sick once and was hospitalized for 3 days and i would get ear infections but other than that I didn't get sick any other way
ReplyDeleteI talked to my mom and she said I was born through C- Section. I don't think this article relates to me because I really didn't get sick as a kid or infant. I must of developed a strong immune system. This shows that the article doesn't related to all births but there is still always that chance.
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally, and I got pneumonia twice as a child. I also had very bad asthma. Based on the article, my mom was probably took antibiotics before my birth, so I would not be able to be exposed and be able to protect myself against most bacterial infections. However, it is possible over the long term that my immune system developed to become more effective, because today I do not really get sick that often.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I was born naturally. When I was a young child, I was first very healthy. By the time I was around 6 - 7 years old, I started to have strep throat infections, and a few ear infections every now and then. Other than that, I was a pretty healthy child.

I was born by a c section. I have always been healthy. The only thing that was wrong is that i have asthma. that is only because i couldnt breathe when i was born. I dont think This article relates to me either because i have never been sick very bad.
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally, and I've always been healthy. But my brother, also born naturally, had a very weak immune system. This may be because we have different fathers, so I'm not sure if this article applies to me.

I have basically the same answer as Maddy, I was born naturally and was very healthy. I also matured fast; speaking early, walking and potty trained. However I only have half siblings and my brother; who has down-syndrome wasn't very healthy but that could also be because of his condition.
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally and was very healthy.

I was born naturally and was healthy when i was a little kid, although I do remember getting strep throat a few times when I was around 5/6/7. The lactobacilli prevented against the dangerous bacteria according to the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteI was born naturally and healthy for the most part

I was born naturally and was healthy exempt for one time when I was about three and my sister was about one, we both contracted rhotos virus, a disease that causes fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. I got quickly better but my sister was hospitalized. After hospitalized she got better and that was about it for me.
ReplyDeleteNow, my sisters young life interests me because she was born naturally, but had several health problems starting from a young age. We have no idea if this has any ties to the mass found in her brain around five, as with her other problems such as autism and not all of her bones fusing correctly. But these severe illnesses stopped getting as frequent as she got older, but it still fascinates me and makes me wonder what caused them, if it was tied to anything, or just a coincidence.
I was born naturally and had many ear infections as a baby requiring me to take lots of antibiotics. At 15 months old, I guess my ear canals grew and I have hardly been sick for the rest of my life since. I did eat yogurt with probiotics in it for a while because the doctor said that all of the antibiotics I had as a baby may have had adverse effects on me. I was not breast fed as a baby at all which means that I did not have had the advantages that come with this.

I was born normal and healthy. Than when I was nine or ten at a doctors check up my doctor told me that my growth Harmon was not developing as well as its suppose to. So he gave me some pills that I had to drink. Its wasn't helping enough. So he gave me another pill that I had to drink in the afternoon as well as the first one he gave me in the morning before breakfast. He said I needed something else that would help me a lot more. So he gave me a injection that I had to put every night before sleeping. I would drink all three everyday. I had been doing all into now. I had got used to doing all three everyday. I still have to do it for one or two more years. The first pill my doctor gave me I have to drink for the rest of my life he said. So I don't like all this but I got to do it. That all that really has happen in my life.
